Inertia

I was but a spaceship, flying through space,
free like a bird, with plans for the long haul.
Free is such a relative term,
making birds seem more than they are,
a bird is still caged in this world after all.

I was born in chaos, with the death of a star.
Along this journey, I have seen many stars die.
Their deaths were violent,
and yet so natural, for humans are brittle,
and their gravity changing my path which I can't deny.

I have also seen birth of a star,
a star so bright and whose gravity still affects me.
I have also met several spaceships,
each one of those with their own destiny,
and I allowed them to influence my path imperceptibly.

And then I met you, an asteroid? a spaceship?
You are one I got closest to and yet you were so far away.
For the first time I am noticing the change in my path,
a realization I never had before,
a bitter sweet feeling that is here to stay.

I was but a spaceship, flying through space,
free like a bird, with plans for the long haul.
Then why do I allow things to change my path,
Is it free will or is it destiny?
Maybe I am just an asteroid after all.
