Regrets

Color me red,
color me yellow,
as anger and fear,
take me in their stride.

I look right behind, on
all the different paths,
that I could have probably
taken, in this ride.

Veering from my path,
and being led astray,
the shadows of my past
have now come to prey.

The colors in the surrounding
look much more bright,
as I paint my character
in shades of grey.

Color me green,
color me blue,
as envy and sadness,
shows my life untrue.

I see where I am standing,
and I see where I am going,
then I see all the people,
who have made it through.

Difference in potential,
then comes to light,
since all their achievements,
come out for display.

The colors in the surrounding
look much more bright,
as I paint my character
in shades of grey.

Color me white,
color me black,
as the shock of it all,
drains all my hope.

Feeling of failure,
of having left behind,
was too much to bear,
than I could ever cope.

A hand reached out to me,
and pulled me out,
as my friends came out,
made me join in a play.

The colors in my life
now look much more bright,
as they build my character
with rainbow clay.

Who we are

Twinkle twinkle little star,
I always ask you who we are.
Are we someone really so high?
Just be honest, don't be shy.

With that the star replied to me,
Answer is something I can't see,
When you find someone just like you,
Ask them what is really true.

I looked around and found you by,
Sparkling eyes, that I can't deny,
Asking questions that made no sense,
Almost child like innocence.

You ask me, if the world is nice.
I say that it is, only if you pay a price.
You ask me what the price could be.
The price is but your temerity.

You : If I were in trouble, would you save me?
Me : Of-course, almost certainly.
You : Have you not paid the price,
Me : Hence, the world is not so nice.

You turned around and gave me a smile,
That moment made it all worthwhile.
I looked above and stared at the star,
So this is who we really are.

Close to someone

I say this a lot,
I don't want to get close to anyone.
I say this a lot,
I don't need anyone in my life.
I say this a lot,
My destiny is carved by my own hands.
I say this a lot,
There is nothing in this world that can make me cry.

But when there is a chance,
That I can be close to someone

I try hard,
Getting close to that someone.
I try hard,
In making a bond with them.
I try hard,
To not let go of their hand.
But I don't know how,
It always seems to slip away.

How does it feel,
To be close to someone?
How does it feel,
To share all of your life?
How does it feel,
To sacrifice something for them?
How does it feel,
To know that you have a shoulder to cry?

When there is a chance,
That I can find the answers.

I try hard,
Getting close to that someone.
I try hard,
In making a bond with them.
I try hard,
To not let go of their hand.
But I don't know how,
It always seems to slip away.

I am afraid.
I am scared.
Of the deceit,
and the pain that follows.
I am afraid.
I am scared.
Of expectations,
and my failure to meet them.

But when there is a chance,
That I can be close to someone.

I try hard...
I wonder if its true anymore
I try hard...
I don't believe myself
I try hard....

I can't be close to anyone,
And I know why.

A little rendition :

Sorry my voice hasn't been what it used to be. Also, this was a few minutes quick recording and I didn't bother to clean it up. Just wanted to record the tune that I was humming in my head.

The Pretender

The world toddles along,
along in my web of lies.
I show people things,
things that on the face of farce flies.

The world sees a movie,
a movie seen frame by frame.
What goes in between, is
anybody's game.

I played that game,
and I played it too well.
People thought I was really smart,
with a heart where love can dwell.

What I truly am,
is pretty much a mystery.
No science can explain me,
and this much is history.

All went well, is
what I thought everyday.
However, it wasn't so,
to my dismay.

Before I realised,
I was caught in my own web.
Strangled helplessly,
my strength began to ebb.

And so I died,
a death of an unknown.
What was left of me,
was just a soul of stone.

A soul, that could
neither laugh nor cry.
Ghosts of the past mock at me,
with a humour so wry.

So I run and run,
I run away from my past.
Hoping to discover myself,
the true one very fast.

When that happens,
this poem will truly end.
With that this journey,
this journey that I wend.

Rose

A Poem by yours truly .....

An acacian heart,
That is mine,
Keeps an iris-ian picture,
on the divine.

Oh Lord,
I ask thee,
Ambrosian future,
Is it for me?

The breeze around me,
Carries along,
Petals of agapanthus,
Where no daffodils belong.

"Cedar, Cedar!",
Is the line at the start,
Ivy, Rosemary, Daisy,
Shower from my heart.

Juniper, that I am,
For you my rose,
Just allow me to be,
At your close.

With that the petals,
Vanish behind,
The iris-ian picture,
In my mind.

I wrote this sometime during my stay at IITK. Someone (some student at IITK) requested me to write a poem of love for them. That person's friend wanted to publish a book and wanted a poem that he could insert inside. Ofcourse, i was to be duly credited for my work. Not sure, whether the book was published/finished/came out or just stayed within papers. However, if you ever find a book with this particular poem inside of it, do let me know.
